Opportunities for HPC/AI/HPDA users in Austria: VSC and EuroCC

Markus Stöhr (BOKU Vienna, VSC Research Center, EuroCC Austria)
Simeon Harrison (TU Vienna, EuroCC Austria)

VSC - Vienna Scientific Cluster

The Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC) is a collaboration of several Austrian universities that provides supercomputer resources and corresponding services to their users.

The current flagship of the VSC family is VSC-4, the most powerful supercomputer ever installed in Austria, reaching a performance (Rmax) of 2.7 PFlop/s. Installed in summer 2019 it consists of 790 water cooled nodes (Lenovo SD650), each with two Intel Skylake Platinum 8174 processors with 24 cores, interconnected with 100 Gbit/s OmniPath. Installation of VSC-5 is in preparation.

In this talk we provide an overview of available hardware, installed software and access regulations for researchers and third-party users.

EuroCC Austria

EuroCC is a European initiative that has been launched from within Horizon 2020, aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness in high performance computing (HPC) and all related fields.

Each of the 33 member states of EuroCC have been tasked with establishing a national competence centre within their respective country, with the goal of serving as a contact point for customers from industry, science, and public services alike.

We, as EuroCC Austria are here for you to facilitate access to Austrian and European HPC clusters, provide support and training where necessary or link you with experts from the fields of high performance computing (HPC), high performance data analysis (HPDA) and artificial intelligence (AI).
