Application for admission to Business Analytics and Data Science
Since 2020, the University of Vienna is offering three interlinked master programmes that focus on foundations of data science (Master in Data Science), the interplay with business and economics (Master of Business Analytics) as well as the interplay with the humanities (Master of Digital Humanities). The first two (Data Science and Business Analytics) are taught in small groups in English and hence, have a competitive application procedure, open for international applicants. The current cohort includes students from 40 countries. The next application is open from 3 March to 7 April 2025 and notifications are planned to be sent in late May/early June 2025.
Application materials include:
- passport/ID card
- bachelor certificate and transcripts (if not issued in English or German, a translation by a court-sworn translator and the required legalisation for the issuing country)
- curriculum vitae
- statement of purpose (motivational letter)
- proof of English language proficiency at level B2 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Additionally: Applicants for Business Analytics must also present the test results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

Degree programme with selection procedure
The aim of the Master programme in Business Analytics is to familiarise students with the methods and instruments of predictive and prescriptive analytics required for business analyses and decision support. The courses will be about how to solve and interpret business decision problems using extensive data sets and to derive recommendations of action. The field of Business Analytics requires a high degree of analytical thinking. The Master programme will provide a deeper insight into the theoretical and practical concepts of statistics, operations research, data science, and the design of information systems.

The Master programme Business Analytics is primarily aimed at students who have completed their Bachelor's degree in:

- Business Administration
- Business Informatics

- International Business Administration
- Mathematics

The programme consists of the following compulsory module groups:

- Data Science Electives
- Elective Module Business Administration

The aim of the Master programme in Data Science is to provide a practically oriented and scientifically sound education in the field of modern data science. The courses will teach innovative methods in data processing, which you can apply in all areas of sciences and economy. The Data Science Master at the University of Vienna includes the teaching of all core skills from development of efficient algorithms as well as understanding the interpretability, overreliability of the results and asking ethical and legal questions.

FOCUS ON INTERDISCIPLINARITY
As the Master programmes Business Analytics, Data Science and Digital Humanities were designed together, students of all three programmes complete the same course contents to the extent of one semester. The offered courses and the various disciplinary locations of students allow for a very broad interdisciplinary exchange and include the following contents:

DIGITAL HUMANITIES
The aim of the Master programme in Digital Humanities is to train students who will make a significant contribution to the promotion, anchoring and critical reflection of computer-based methods in humanistic research. After learning how to digitally process and evaluate texts, images and other discipline related data, the courses will teach you how to make sense of the thereby gained data to create new interdisciplinary content. The expected topics during your studies include Digital Humanities, Theory and Practice of Digital Humanities, and Specialisation in Clusters of Digital Humanities. Admission for Digital Humanities is possible every semester.
