Gaia released its second installment of data

Exciting times for astronomers and data scientists exploring the richest star catalogue of our Galaxy, to date.

Gaia, a large-size mission of the European Space Agency, just released its second set of data. This data release has about three orders of magnitude more stars than the previous data release (the second release contains about two billion stars), and it is full of new information that every astronomer around the globe is excited to mine.

This is a 2D histogram of all the sources in Gaia (in three colors).
